Does anybody glue their bolt on necks? What is the norm here?

The advantage of a bolt on is the lack of a glued joint to have to steam loose when it comes time to reset the neck, thereby reducing a possible path of damage at neck removal. If you glue the tenon in place then you have lost this advantage and you might as well have created a dovetail joint

The FB extension can be glued down but even there many of us have moved to an extension with a tenon and mortise in the neck block extension flange and bolt the extention down as well.
but the truth is if the FB extention and neck is fitted well ther is no real need to glue or bolt it.

Thanks all! Good to know.

Michael, do you have any pics of the fretboard extension flange & bolt system?

Frank Ford has some good ones on his site Frets.com under a heading that goes something like "Taylors new neck joint""

That's quite a broad statement to make without evidence or proof.

I beg to differ...my last 3 bolted FB M&T guitars sound great. I guess like lots of things in guitar building...it all depends.

There are quite a few builders on this forum that bolt down their FB extensions and none have ever reported tone death.

You're not the only one. I only noticed it because of the color. I had to get up on the screen to clearly read it. *sigh* I just might need to concede and get the bifocals the doc has been prescribing for the last two years.

Steve pfft

What a way to start the New Year, having to admit I'm getting old.
